Inflation is most likely running at approximately 2.6% and 2.2% (core)

If we take a look at annual inflation after the pandemic began in early 2020 and the pandemic is treated as a single episode that does not mechanically accelerate as time passes then we can get a more realistic inflation estimate.

The chart depicts the headline and core CPI levels, as well as trend lines showing their average annual growth rates since February 2020.
